I’m an older driver now but remember what a nightmare it was to get insurance. Extremely over priced compared to a new driver of an older age. I know its about statistics but how can you judge what a drivers like before they’ve even started driving on their own.
I wrote this which goes into more details to highlight the issue.

The biggest problem to me is that males are charged higher than females. Grouping by age is a little more acceptable, but not gender. I read that females account for 70% of shoplifters, so why doesn’t Wal-mart charge women a higher price on items? What if blacks or Asians caused more accidents? Simply saying that young males cause more accidents is bogus. They charge it because people don’t care as long as it only affects white males. As a teen, my twin sister had two tickets and still paid slightly less than me for the same car. Now, I think she pays more with a ticket, but still.

What company or what car is the cheapest to insure? We are looking at buying a car, but since my hubby is only 20 the insurance is through the roof. (Can’t seem to find a quote less that £2000)
Any one got any ideas?
He’s held his licence for 1 year and 4 months. No points. No accidents.
He had two years no claims in Australia, but that doesn’t count to anything here. Shame.
The cheapest we’ve got is £1700 on a daewoo matiz. I think we’ll end up with that!
We need four doors because we’ve got a second baby on the way.

i recently tried confused.com and got a few cheap quotes the best being with ecar however i did look for reviews on this company and out of 31 only a few were good have you tried 4youngdrivers.co.uk they seemed reasonable EDIT: i should add i’m 29 but currently only hold a provisional liscence and ecar quoted me £220 on a vauxhall corsa that was 3rd party fire &theft though and there are no extras in with that but it may be worth a look

The second option is one i did a while ago this option is one i did this time.the first time i just got the first company who would touch me.I bought the car and joined a forum which catered for my car it being the skylineowners on there i thought out that by asking others whom they was with it gave me the best places for the car i had and even better i found out that even being a member of the free forum it gave me discount on insurance if done through the forum.
So advice would be first to see what forums are out there and
join them ie if your getting a subaru or an evo etc etc .ask on there or do a free search and see what other members pay at the end of the day there the best folks to ask as they will have the same car.
Right sounds tacky but is good advice buy a copy of maxpower reason is in the back is page after page of insurance companies. And as you can imagine they cater for young sports car drivers.
Unless you get the best deal ever don’t buy online .tell them you tried doing it online at it wouldn’t take your spec of car or kept crashing, reason is online its a fixed price.I did the old that it more expensive then i was given else where routine.and was offered unlimited mileage and free cover on load of my mods, something which you could’nt have done if bought online.

A minor cannot enter a contract legally, so a young drivers best bet is to go onto their parents policy. Insurance for young driver is very expensive, and going on their parents policy can help lower that cost a bit.
